Will Obama's Stance on National Security Split the Left, and Create an Opening for Conservatives?

Recently, the left has been turning up the heat on Obama on Afghanistan, even calling for Vice President Biden to resign over it. And now Obama's views on national security is making the cracks in the left grow even more.


So how will this affect the Obama Administration? It seems unlikely that democrat politicians will challenge Obama on any of this, so it most likely won't have any effect on policy creation in the future. However, if it continues, it could cause some real problems for democrats in 2010 and Obama in the 2012 elections.


In times like this, the left has a history of:

1. Underestimating the right wing and conservative movement.
2. Pushing extreme left wing third parties. Good ol' Nader.
3. Just staying home in protest. "They're both just like, the same, maaan!"

These things create a great opening for conservative candidates to make a big comeback. Although Republican party affiliation is still low, Democrat affiliation is also dropping while third parties are exploding in size. This, combined with 60% of americans thinking that we are on the wrong track, and corruption being the most important issue to them after the multitude of corruption scandals in the Obama Administration, makes it clear that the upcoming elections may be the "perfect storm" for conservative third parties.
